Valentine-love is the greatest

Today on this special Valentine's Day, we are reminded of the profound significance of love in our lives. Love, as described in the scriptures, is not merely an emotion or a fleeting sentiment, but a divine force that binds us together and guides us in our journey of faith.

In the book of 1 Corinthians, chapter 13, verses 4-7, the apostle Paul beautifully articulates the essence of love:

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

These verses captures the depth and breadth of love. Love is patient, enduring through trials and tribulations. It is kind, extending grace and compassion to all. Love is selfless, seeking the well-being of others above our own desires.

As we reflect on the significance of love, we are reminded of the greatest commandment given to us by our Lord Jesus Christ, as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 22, verses 37-39:

"Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’"

Here, Jesus teaches us that love is at the core of our relationship with God and with one another. Our love for God is manifested in our obedience to His commandments and our devotion to His will. And our love for our neighbors is a reflection of the love that God has poured into our hearts.

As we celebrate Valentine's Day, let us not only express our love to those closest to us, but let us also embody the love that Christ has shown us. Let us love one another as Christ has loved us, with patience, kindness, and selflessness.

In closing, let us meditate on the words of 1 John, chapter 4, verses 7-8:

"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love."

May the love of God fill our hearts and overflow into the lives of those around us. Amen.

Happy valentine day
